Hi! I’m Sam.
I’m an educator, theatre-maker, and creative facilitator.
I have a genuine passion for holding space for people to connect, dream, and thrive. Whether that’s in a classroom, on the stage, or out in the world, nothing energizes me more than figuring out how to move a group from an idea to something real.
The skills I use across these spaces are pretty much the same: give me a big idea, a messy problem, or a vague sense that something should exist in the world, and I’ll start asking, “what if…?”
I draw on more than a decade of experience working with young people, artists, educators, and communities of all shapes and sizes, across all sorts of contexts and projects. Sometimes I’m directing. Sometimes I’m facilitating. And sometime I’m helping dream up something that doesn’t quite have a name yet. Whatever I’m doing, I lead with the belief that trust and relationships are the foundation of good work, and I like processes that are both intentional and playful.
I’m a New England girlie currently based in Salt Lake City, where I serve as Assistant Professor of Theatre and Theatre Teaching Area Head at the University of Utah.
I hold an MFA in Theatre for Youth and Community from Arizona State University, and an MA in English Literature from the Bread Loaf School of English, and a BA in English Education with a Theatre minor from Westfield State University.
